![]() ![]() Unlike your Evernote data, your DEVONthink data is encrypted at rest, wherever you store it. UPDATE: Simultaneous Sync is for non-Bonjour (Direct) Connections at this point (see comments, below). I’m already thinking of ways I can put this to use, by keeping DEVONthink running on a home Mac, and feeding documents into it via Dropbox and a Hazel rule. You can also choose to sync manually, or for sync to occur at set intervals. Sync is automatic, happening in the background if you want it to. Once your database is in place on each machine, changes happen very quickly. I don’t think I’m prone to fits of hyperbole, but I was stunned by how quick the whole process was. The speed of the sync process is jaw dropping. This isn’t meant as a full review, but a few observations: Speed ![]() I also have a few databases that I use for short periods that I don’t bother to sync. I sync one database, my personal records, by direct connection between my MacBook Pro and iMac over my local network. This works by use of a sync store 1 that DEVONthink set up on the NAS, after I input some settings (URL, username, etc.) in the app. I’ve set up all but one of my permanent databases to sync via my Synology NAS, using WebDAV. There are several sync options, including the use of Dropbox, Box, iCloud, direct connection, or through a WebDAV capable server. For the first time, you can work on DEVONthink on different Macs without really thinking about it.Īs a disclaimer, I should say that I’ve only been using the new sync technology for a couple of days. You’ll probably want to wait for the iOS app, to make sure that it is up to snuff, but the Mac app now makes sync between multiple Macs easy, fast, seamless, and secure. ![]() If you’ve been one of the many Evernote users looking for another option, and if you use a Mac, DEVONthink is now a real contender. After being a weakness for years, DEVONthink’s sync is now a strength. The sync technology is baked into the latest DEVONthink 2.9 update, and will be included in the upcoming new version of DEVONthink to Go, the iOS app. But this solution would not work for windows/linux/android users.DEVONthink’s developers released its next generation sync technology this week. And since I use a mac/ios devices, it's fine. But nothing comes close to devonthink IMO. I have tried multiple times to ditch DevonThink, because i'd prefer to have a web application running on the NAS itself to manage document storage/database. And my documents are not at risk of being lost because they are stored on the NAS (with redundant drives) and also backed up to cloud. This set up allows me to access all of my documents and search them from all of my devices. The NAS has a HyperBackup task to back up my encrypted document database to BackBlaze B2, which is very cost effective. In addition, I can add a document to devonthink from any device and it will be sync'd to the NAS and accessible on all other devices. That way every single document can be found and accessed on any of my devices (via VPN). I have several macs and mobile devices that use DevonThink - each one configured to sync with my NAS. DevonThink syncs my document database with the Synology NAS via WebDAV automatically. I have a Synology NAS set up with a WebDAV share. DevonThink has a database of all my documents and keeps it indexed/searchable). Scanned documents go directly into DevonThink ( ). I scan all documents with a ScanSnap scanner connected to my mac and they are OCR'd immediately - this is very efficient and fast.
